The Arc of a Session

I begin sessions by  guiding  clients  into the wellspring of their bodies. We take time to lie down, slow down, and physically arrive into the space - connect to the breath and notice what's happening.

From there the session evolves into a somatically integrated, inter-relational meditation. Together we enter into a space of attention that encourages gentle  curiosity and exploration.

The manner and the timing for the body to unwind and relax is unique and dynamic for each person. Some do well with more passive support, meaning simply lying down and tuning into the body with focused gentle touch. Other times more activity can be helpful, perhaps gentle stretching, or light shaking to help the nervous system regulate.

There's an educational component that guides the client into being able to notice the more subtle layers of their experience. We build a vocabulary on how to tune in – this is referred to as “somatic intelligence”, and it can be learned and practiced. This is an aspect that sustains beyond the session.
